Welcome to the March/April 2025 edition of the Funding Strategies newsletter!
|
It has been
an interesting / turbulent first quarter with trade tariffs globally and a
flight to gold.
|
|
|
Interest rates and inflation seem to be “steady” at the
moment as does business confidence – essentially neutral (Chart Pack | RBA).
While
the stock market will reflect the uncertainty in global markets we believe
there are good opportunities in alternative assets including yielding
opportunities that are not correlated with the public markets (see Investment
Opportunities - Australia | Funding Strategies). Please reach out
for more information.
We are also seeing strong merger and acquisition
opportunities and have a number of buyers looking for investments. Again
please reach out if you are looking to buy or sell a business (Exits,
Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) - Australia | Funding Strategies) and we
can see how we can help. We are currently running a number of buy side
advisory assignments.
|
Finally, please feel free to contact us if we can be of assistance to your business.

Wholesale Investor Emergence & The Growth Capital Forum: - Mitchell reports back from Sydney
|
"The Wholesale Investor Emergence event highlighted a range of
companies, funds and investment opportunities in a range of sectors, while also
providing some interesting insights from panellists.

Hashan De Silva from KP-Rx
(a Biotechnology venture capital fund) gave an overview of the Biotechnology
market from an investment perspective and highlighted the lower business model
risk when compared to technology and other companies due to the predictable
nature of forecasting the drug prices and sales volume. However, the main
risk comes from the clinical trials, and it is important to mitigate this by
having enough funding to last all the way through until phase 3 clinical
trials. Hashan also discussed the strong BEAR market in Australia and the USA, particularly with companies earlier then phase 3 trials, with companies raising
at lower valuations to ensure enough capital is raised.
The Emergence event
also discussed the importance of diversification of an investment portfolio,
particularly with including crypto in people's portfolio. The speakers
highlighted the changes and movements in crypto, particularly regarding the new US
government. Private credit funds were also a major talking point, with a strong
rise in the amount and size of the funds in Australia in recent years."
The Growth Capital Forum, hosted by Private Equity Media, was a
great event, starting with a very interesting economic outlook from Barrenjoey,
highlighting the expected inbound investment into Australia. The panellists and
speakers covered a range of topics from the importance of valuing and growing
intangible assets, success strategies for baby boomer businesses, opportunities
in the renewable energy transition as well as national security and defence
tech. The key takeaway is that growth equity is becoming a strong opportunity
in the market, and it is important to work with the founders of the investee
companies to continue the growth story."
