Dear Readers,

Welcome to the February 2026 edition of the Funding Strategies newsletter!

Upcoming Event:

Risk, Assets, and Capital:

SME Credit Markets in 2026

Join our Managing Director, Dr Mark Rainbird (pictured below), who is on the expert panel at this breakfast seminar on 18 February in Brisbane.

This event is designed for commercial finance brokers who want a clearer, practitioner-led understanding of how SME credit decisions are being made today. Rather than focusing on macroeconomic commentary, the discussion will centre on real-world lending, valuation, and risk assessment, and how these factors interact in live deals."

We help business owners seeking capital: for expansion, to purchase equipment, for working capital, to pay down the ATO and to improve their balance sheet.  We also see fund raising to increase FUM (funds under management), to purchase new assets or provide liquidity for existing shareholders (secondary sales).  We also assist founders and companies in selling their businesses, to undertake a pre-IPO or back door listing.

Fundamentally any or all of these activities / transactions can highlight weaknesses in a company or fund while going through the process. Typically, we come across issues with pitch documents (“packaging the matter”), business strategy and structuring, financials and accounting, business models / assumptions, governance, plans for the use of funds (execution), not understanding competitors… and not having investor relationships / distribution.  To be successful, these issues need to be addressed to attract investment and allow investors to complete due diligence with confidence.

Funding Strategies has more than 14 years of experience providing comprehensive capital solutions to solve these problems, and to assist companies with business growth planning / scaling advice / strategic partnerships, governance and execution, strategic advisory and support services, capital raising, sourcing debt, deal preparation, matching companies with investors, investor relations, structuring investments, legal and compliance issues.  View our testimonials here: Capital & Investment Advice - Client Testimonials | Funding Strategies.

Project Index Update

Upcoming Webinar

Project Index is an Australian equity income fund investing in high-yielding, high-franked dividend stocks across 90–120 ASX-listed companies. The fund’s rules-based process is validated by S&P Dow Jones Indices and is designed to optimise after-tax income and total return.

We are pleased to invite you to an investor webinar for the Project Index investment opportunity at 1pm AEST on Thursday, 19 February, with the Company’s Management Team.

The webinar is for individual investors interested in early-stage equity ownership in an established but growing investment management firm, with capital invested in a proven, diversified Australian equity income strategy.

The session will focus on the opportunity to participate in the growth of the investment manager itself (Class B units), with investor capital remaining fully invested in the income fund. It is intended for investors comfortable with a three-year investment commitment and participating in the early growth phase of the manager. The opportunity involves a minimum investment of $1m into the income fund.

The webinar will run for approximately 30 minutes, followed by Q&A, and the opportunity is expected to close at the end of March.

Flora's event commentary

Our Director of M&A, Flora Mok joined the Asian Financial Forum ("AFF") and Asia Private Equity Forum ("APEF") in Hong Kong on 26 to 28 January 2026.

Asian Financial Forum

The AFF was well received with over 3,600 participants joining the event.

Flora was a delegate of the AFF Australia New Zealand Delegation and had opportunities to meet with potential investors and clients during the AFF, particularly at the one-on-one deal flow sessions.

Asia Private Equity Forum

With over 800 participants, the APEF provided a good opportunity for Flora to meet with various existing and new contacts such as private equity and credit funds, institutional investors, family offices, accountants, lawyers, etc.  A number of them have been investing in Australia or would like to understand more about the Australian market.

Some of the APEF speakers mentioned that they have been investing in Australia and would continue to do so given the safe and stable investment environment in Oceania.

Flora has been arranging follow-up meetings with those she met at the AFF and APEF and showed interest in Australian matters.
